Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey
Traveling for Visitations with A BIG ISSUE
I have a disabled Autistic son from a previous marriage. My soon to be 2nd ex husband lives 2 1/2 hours away and I am the custodial parent of OUR child. He wants me to drive to drop off our son and pick him up for his visits. I am unable to because of my Autistic child...he cannot tolerate being in a vehicle to long and it can become a life threatening hazard for all of us....(my autistic son, my 3 yr old as well as myself). Will a Judge order me to have to drive our son to my soon to be ex husbands visitations? I have absolutely NOONE to care for my Autistic child if I were to do so. What do I do? Can you help?

I have read what the other attorneys have written, and can add this:
You and your soon to be ex should be able to work out something reasonable. If you can not, then find a decent divorce attorney located not too far from you, and get some advice.
If you would like, give me a call; I am in Hackensack (northern New Jersey). I will be happy to discuss
this with you; a brief telephone consultation will be free.

Re: Traveling for Visitations with A BIG ISSUE
It seems as if the interests of your children would prevent a Judge from ordering you to take such a trip. I would imagine that some sort of compromise should be explored, meeting halfway and/or you getting someone to watch you other child at least while you travel one way and your soon to be ex travelling one way.

The judge isn't going to do anything to put your life in danger. Just present it the right way.
