Re: Verbal Agreements

Darlene - Thank you for your e-mail regarding verbal agreements. As a general rule, there is no difference in enforceability between verbal or written agreement. The only problem is that verbal agreements are much harder to prove. There are some exceptions to this rule, however, such as when an agreement is for purchase of real estate, or other property-- some verbal agreements will not be enforced, by statute. You should speak with an attorney to address your specific issues. Our firm has a department of experienced family law attorneys who can provide advice and representation, if necessary. Do not rely on the information set forth in this e-mail; no attorney-client relationship has been formed. We would be happy to meet with you. Please call 856-795-6700 to schedule a consultation. Good luck to you. K. Scheiner, Managing Partner, Divorce & Family Law Dept., Gerstein Grayson, LLP.
