Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

I violated a TRO by sending my ex-girlfriend an apology email. We reconciled and the TRO was dismissed. However, I am now looking at charges of contempt. The prosecutor now has this email and photos of bruises she obtained when we (my ex-girlfriend and I) fought. I was injured as well but was not the aggressor nor did I record any evidence of my injuries. My ex-girlfriend and I have since split up and she seems determined to have me punished. We are now to go to trial in the near future. What am I looking at if found guilty?

If your contempt charge is to be heard in the Family Part it is a disorderly persons offense, because a criminal charge must be tried before a jury and the Family Part does not have juries.

In the Family Part you are facing up to six months in jail and $1,000.00 in fines. In the Criminal Part you would be facing 18 months or five years in prison as a maximum sentence.

As you have probably figured out breaking up with your girlfriend BEFORE the criminal charge

was dismissed was a mistake.

If you need a lawyer, you can call me at 201/342/7933 to discuss the contempt charge and

possibly have me act as your lawyer on the charge.

Picking up on what Mr. Moore said, you should really have an attorney. You do no need a contempt charge on your record. If you get one, you could go to jail. If you get a second one, you will go to jail if convicted. Call me at 732/247/3340 to discuss.
