Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Visitation Refusal, College Tuition And Support

I have a now 18-year-old child who refuses contact with my family or me for almost two years. My ex-wife said she is and was old enough to make up her own mind on who she wishes to contact although the divorce document indicates visitation rights bi weekly. She is now in college and I pay more than half of the tuition and continued full child support. No contact was made although I have left over a hundred messages requesting and even begging for a phone call or e-mail. I did go to her (my child) place of employment, which prompted a phone call stating I upset my child. (I asked her to stop by to visit). Can I stop tuition and child support? I know of two other men who have a very similar situation so I am not alone on this one. Thank you.

Re: Visitation Refusal, College Tuition And Support

There is some element of linking visitation and child support. It is not a very strong link, but it does come up. Usually, it is the mother who is preventing visitation when your question is asked. In this instance we have an adult child, still dependent but able to vote.

I would be willing to research the question for you for a reasonable fee which you and I might discuss. You may call me at 800 273 7933.
