Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

wage garnishments

I live in New Jersey. I currently have a voluntary garnishment from IRS. Child support ( I am current in my obligation, but just have a nasty ex) wants to garnish my check as well. It is my understanding that in NJ you can only have 1 garnishment at a time. Does it make a difference that it is child support? Can my employer refuse the notice due to an already existing garnishment?

Re: wage garnishments

Not a good situation. I would have to look it up, and see what the law is on this.

Child support and IRS garnishment. Quite a load to carry.

You may benefit from having an attorney look at this and tell you whether the child support can be reduced.
