Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey
help
Hello,
I wanted to know a little more about a predicament my fiancee is in. He is 17, almost 18, and his family wrongfully had him committed into the depression center of the hospital, which basically means they think he\'s insaine, but the psychologist that talked to him (might have been a psykiatrist) said he is not crazy. Anyways, he was inrolled into a program from the psychologist, i think it may have been a 504k plan but i really can\'t remeber. Anyways, when he turns 18, can he leave that set up so he can move away from his abusive family? I really need to save him from his family, and he insists that we can do nothing, but i will not lose hope, so please help me. He is depressed, but that is only because his family and the fact that they won\'t let him go. He is from New Jersey and I from Michigan. Please let me know! Thank you!
Sincerely,
Elly

Re: help
The depression unit would seem to be a place for people suffering from depression which is a form of mental illness but not necessarily a place for insane individuals. Depression is a serious mental illness and it would seem that the family is trying to avoid conduct which might cause the young person to act in a manner injurious to himself. Depression can have origins in chemical imbalance in the brain and can happen to virtually anyone. I am not a physician but I have had a number of clients who required hospitalization and medication to deal with their depression.
