Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey
My wife and I want a divorce and is pregnant
My wife and I want a divorce. She is pregnant and when the child is born does not want me to have any contact with her or the baby. She wants me to give up my parental rights. She doesn't want alimony or child support. We have no property to divide. All this is fine by me. The grounds for divorce would be adultry on her part. How long would this take? Do I have to still provide health coverage? Can we do this ourselves.

Re: Parental obligations upon divorce
It appears to me that you cannot do this yourselves because you are asking for advice on what should be done. People who know how to do things do not ask others how to accomplish it. That being said, you should know that your obligation as a parent does not end upon divorce. Your wife has no right to waive the baby's right to receive child support from you. And, how cruel of your wife to deprive the child of his/her father! If everything can be agreed upon between you and your wife, then you could obtain a divorce relatively quickly. However, whatever agreement you reach must be fair to both of you and to the child. Keep in mind that this advice is based purely on the little bit of information that you have given to me. There certainly may be other factors that would change my opinion. Further, no one can rely on advice from an attorney who has not been retained. Since it appears that you have not retained an attorney, you may want to contact an attorney (either me or someone else) to discuss your matter in more detail. Only then will you be able to rely on the advice. I will be happy to assist you. However, you need to call me at 856-546-8010. Mention Law Guru and your first consultation is free. Good luck!
