Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New Jersey

Attorney slacking

Attorney taking extended lunches, when returning smells of alcohol & slurs speach. Delegating more responsibility to paralegal without sufficient instruction or supervision. Has been having paralegal lie to clients and courts about why attorney has had to cancel recent appointments. Paralegal has confronted attorney. Attorney tells paralegal that she doesn't have to think about what he asks her to, she only has to do it. Attorney reasures paralegal that only he is accountable to the courts and to the clients. What option are available to the paralegal?

The rules of professional responsibility govern the conduct of lawyers. The jurisdiction in which the attorney is licensed should have a disciplinary process in place for reporting alleged misconduct. If the attorney has a supervisor or a senior attorney to whom he or she reports, speaking with that person would be a good first step.
