Re: cae accident liability

You are not liable for the debts of your adult daughter unless she has been adjudicated incompetent and there is a court order saying that you are liable.

On the facts that you present, it seems that her boyfriend's father is guilty of the crime of extortion. If he carried through with his threat, he would also be guilty of making false official statements. You should seriously consider reporting that to the police now. It will make your side of the story much more credible if he goes through with the threat.

You may also want to re-submit your question in the "criminal law" category and have a lawyer who handles criminal cases give you advice.

Tell him you have recorded his threat and will charge him with extortion if he does not retract the threat. You are not liable; she is an adult.

Call me if you like.
