Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New Jersey
civil suit
I currently am going to file a civil suit on a man that conned me out of 25,000. In short terms we (fiance, I, and my two babies) were looking for a place to live. There was a weichert sign on the property for rent or sale. We decided to do a rent to buy after 2 years of rent. In June 2007 a payment of 25,000 was given to the landlord for down payment. we were to move in august 2007 and during these few months builder/landlord was supposed 2 the get CO for the property and did not. We had no choice 2 move in because we allready gave notice 2 other landlord were we live b4. After 3 months in Dec 2007 I called landlord after 3 rent payment of 1400 a month were the 25,000 was escrowed he replied that he did not put the $ in escrow. He spent it. I contacted a lawyer also at that time because the landlord said he wanted us out at the end of the year of 2008. The lawyer we had decided to draw up a new contract because the previous lease who was supposedly written by a real estate agent was not and it was to vague. The new contract was drawn & the landlord & his lawyer broke that contract also by not giving us the remainder of the $. We moved in feb 2008 no damage 2house. I need to know how much I can sue 4 what charges 2 file. crim-also

Re: civil suit
I am somewhat puzzled as to your paying a $25,000 for what is basically a rental situation. Normally
any deposit required would have been paid when you exercised the option to buy. I believe I need more information to give you an answer to your question.
Call me if you like.
