Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New Jersey

Civil Suit re:Cable Box

I received a supeona from my cable company regarding a purchase I had made 3 years prior from an out of state company for a cable box. I did not intentionally purchase a descrambler box as they alledge. When I received the box, it did not work, and I attempted to return it to the seller, who would not take it back, after a few weeks I disposed of it at my towns recycling center. Had I kept the box, I would have informed my cable company of this purchase. At no time did I scale down or terminate my service with the cable company. Which brings me to today, the are seeking up to $110,000.00 in damages, for something I didn't do! Any suggestions? Thanks.

Re: Civil Suit re:Cable Box

Yo need to get an attorney to assist you in fighting this. If the facts as you state them are true, you should have a good defense, but this can NOT be ignored. You MUST address this right away. I have not heard of a cable company doing this, at least not recently, so I presume thay THINK they have all they need on you to persue this claim. They do not persue these claims to make money dorectly, they do it make an example of someone, and to discourage others.

Good luck.
