Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New Jersey
criminal
if a person reveals a crime to you in writing because they had head it will help stop them from drinking.
Are you obligated to keep this a secret? The secret was revealed to a common drunk too.

Re: criminal
Fascinating question. First, there is no legal obligation to keep anything secret, unless you are a doctor or a lawyer. If you are one of these things, then one of the applicable rules of ethics or other may prohibit you from revealing client confidences. Certainly, there is no drunk-to-drunk privilege. Your obligation is moral, and nothing more.

I would say the answer depends on a lot of situations. How old was it? If you have to ask, its obviously bothering you so just call the police.
