Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New Jersey
Is this Defamation?
A psychiatrist who has been treating my ex-wife and son for the past 4 years issued a written statement to be used in court for her patients benefit. The statement claims that I am attempting to sabotage therapy, have historically harbored negative attitudes as well as other untruths about me. These seem to have been what her patient has told her to say for the court to improve her position and undermine mine. The statements are totally untrue.
Is this a potential defamation case?
Thanks in advance

Re: Is this Defamation?
No, this is probably not defamation. Public policy considerations make it extremely difficult to bring such a claim.
Lastly, these claims are never taken on a contingecy fee basis so you will have to finance the case. Given what you are spending already in litigation you may not be in such a great financial situation. Instead of spending money to go down this dead end street, you should concentrate on your family law case.
