Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New Jersey

friend takes car back

I had a friend that purchased a car in her name for me. We had a verbal agreement that I will pay the car note and work on getting the car out of her name and put it solely in my name. Recently she decided to take the car back and still wants me to continue to pay the note. A friend of mine saw the car that she took back from me at a dealer car lot and she is now trying to sue me for the balance of the car. My question is can she do this?
