Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New Jersey

How do I handle changing my first name?

It seems when born my parents had my name spelled as ''one way'' on the birth cert, but social securtiy and all schooling is another variation of the same name. I found this out in mid 20's when applying for a driver's liscence. My liscense and passport is spelled as ''another variation'' because of my birth certificate. I never used that spelling and all credit cards, history, and social security are another variation of the same name. How do I go about changing my name to the variation of choice? Will this cost me money? I can show that always used the variation not on my birth cert. my whole life. I do not know if this makes a difference. When I book an airline ticket the ticket is spelled like the name on my credit card, but when I check in it is a different spelling. This has not caused a problem, accept may be once or twice. However, all new security measures and travelling abroad could make this confusing. Please help.

Example of 2 variations of the same name (not mine): Sheryl or Cheryl
