Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New Jersey

Insurance Claim

My stepmother sued an insurance company which was the policy holder of a woman who killed my father in an auto accident. She won the settlement but since passed away to years ago and left the settlement to her son my stepbrother. My question is do I have any claim to a part of the settlement? Shouldn't the case had been brought as a representation of my fathers estate and in doing so entitling me to a portion of it?

As a son you were entitled to share in the settlement and she could not give away that which was yours.
