Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New Jersey
I was very intoxicated and I got a ticket (not a traffic) that I believe is a complaint - summons ticket. I have a court date but I cannot read the ticket and do not know what it if for, do I just go to court or can I just pay some type of fine. It says I need to appear but I would rather just pay the fine but do not know what it is for. Is there anything I can do to get out of going to court?

If it says you must appear in court, you must appear in court. You need to find out what the offense is. Call the court and give them the ticket number. The clerk will help you. Appearing in court might also be a very good idea as certain offenses can have serious implications and go on your record. Depending on the offense you might be best advise to contact an attorney, who can get the offense and advise you of its implications. Also, your attorney might be able to appear in court so you don't have to.
