Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New Jersey

In a Small Claims Court action, all under oath, can a statement made by the plaintiff about the defendant (or vice versa) be taken as slander...ie can it provide fodder for a future action?

No. Statements made as part of testimony are protected by a litigation privilege and are not subject to a claim for slander. However, there could be an issue of perjury if the statements are knowingly false.
