Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New Jersey
A so-called friend has been telling another person my personal business.
I have a strong feeling based on a recent incident that the other person has been also telling my personal business to yet another person.
I told the so-called friend that I thought the other person has been spreading my personal business to another person. Is my saying that I think the other person is spreading my personal business considered slander to that person?

Probably not. Although you don't say exactly what you have been telling all of these other people, general comments expressing opinions are protected speech. Additionally, the other person would have to prove that they suffered damages as a result of your comments. However, as you are now finding, it is a good idea to keep your "personal business" to yourself so you won't have to be concerned who is spreading it around.
Slander is something that is said that is untrue. Putting aside what it is that is "personal business", if what is being said is true, then there cannot be a case for slander.
