Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New Jersey

My son dated this young lady for 3 months and then got engaged. They wer engaged for apporx. 2 months and now are broken up. He contracted a wireless phone company (Verizon wireless) and added her as additional line. He wants to drop her off the contract so she can have and maintain on her own and possibly keep the number she now has on his contract. She is insisting that he carry her for at least a year and pay for her phone usuage. If he refuses and drops her from the contract she wants to take him to court to get reimbursed for every gift she bought him throughout their short relationship. She claims she has receipts for everything totalling a couple of thousands of dollars. My question: Does she have a legal case against my son if he drops her from the contract? They are no longer together, never married, and not going to be together.

Based on what you said, no, he has no duty. He did not promise to do this, and he has no duty to do this.

Be thankful he did not make bigger mistakes with this woman. Pregnancy. Credit cards in joint names. Other disasters.

You may be able to get her to go away, by asking her Why would she want him to see who she is speaking to for the next year? Your son will get the phone bills showing all of that info.

You are welcome. Call me if I can be of further assistance.

She does not stand well. He owes her nothing. He should take her off his cell phone plan.
