Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New Jersey
Threatened with Lawsuit
I have a situation where I helped someone set up a website.
I worked on it a month straight for no pay.
I was then banned from the site without explaination.
The owner, who I thought I was friends with, I called.
I probably harassed him, but not sure. I did call him a lot to find out why I was banned.
I now posted something on a web board on that I felt betrayed.
Now he's threatening to sue me.
Does he have a case?

Re: Threatened with Lawsuit
It depends.
There are several causes of action that can be brought as a result of undesired publicity. Libel is the one that is usually thought of but it is not the only claim that can be brought. A lot has to do with what you said, whether or not it is true, and the circumstances under which you acquired the information.
On the facts that you present, my intuitive feeling is that your friend will not win a suit if one is brought. However, you might want to discuss your particular situation with a lawyer close to you to get a more definitive assessment of your exposure.
If I can be of further help to you, call or email.

You should get some advice from an attorney, and you may have to take action to get paid for your work.
The possible claim against you may or may not have merit, I can not tell.
Please call my office if I can assist you. You can then decide how you would like to proceed.
