Legal Question in Immigration Law in New Jersey
I am 4.5 years into my greencard living in US. Could apply for citizenship in 6 mo. Am considering terminating my employment in US and taking a job in Europe, while maintaining my residence and family in US. What is the possible scenario for me to do that and not jeopardaze my naturalization process?

Citizenship applications can be submitted during the 90 days before you hit 5 years as a lawful permanent resident. If you apply for citizenship before you leave for Europe, you must be sure that you are in the U.S. to attend your naturalization interview and your fingerprinting appointment. Citizenship applications can take up to 4-6 months depending on your jurisdiction, so you should time it accordingly with your plans to leave your job. You may want to consult with an attorney to work out the timing of your application and plans. More importantly, you should consult with an immigration attorney to ensure you are eligible for citizenship and there is nothing in your background that would prevent you from naturalizing or cause you to lose your green card.
