Legal Question in Immigration Law in New Jersey
expired conditonal green cad
ok so i got married in 2000 to an american citizen and went to the inital interview. a couple years later we separated and now (8 years later) i filed for divorce ( although we lost touch for years). I don t know what my status is anymore and when i call uscis they recognize my A# but it seems i provide them with the wrong address( i moved a few times). my divorce lawyer says she called some # that says if there is a removal order against me and there isn't, also she found out that i did have a green card and that everything was fine but then nothing else. she couldn't really find out where i stand now regarding the INS. I need a good lawyer that could help me solve this case. Also the last time i entered the US was in 1999 through a parole re entry permit so i have a stamp on my old passport with my A# on it. No green card though, never received one. Also i should mention that on the years of required registration for men, i didn t do it, from one i was worried about my status but also since i was still legally married i didn t see the necessity. Putting the lack of responsibility and ethics and ....aside, I didn t mean to put this off, but ppl tend to scare you with stories but now i need to act. thank you

You should definitely consult with an immigration attorney to determine your status, and bring all the relevant paperwork regarding your application to the appointment. If you had a conditional green card, then you must file for a permanent one, even if filing late. I strongly urge that you do so with an attorney. If you do not have the conditional green card, then an attorney will have to help you to determine your status in the US at this point.
