Legal Question in Immigration Law in New Jersey

Green card processing Consultation

Is there a specific period that you have to wait before applying for a Green Card?

I am on H1B status for 4 months, If an employer wants to process my Green Card, can he do so? Or do I have to wait a specific time before the process.

Also, can any one let me know about the hourly consultation fee charged by attorneys to help me understand the specifics of the process?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Green card processing Consultation

There may be pros and cons to filing the green card application right away or waiting to file the applicaiton. It will depend on the job requirements and your qualifications. There is no fee to set up an initial consultation with my office should you wish to do so.

Re: Green card processing Consultation

There is no "mandatory" period that you must wait. However, my advice would be to let an attorney review your paperwork and position and advice you accordingly just to be sure that you don't raise any issues in the future. Also, keep in mind that given the economy filing for permanent residence through employment may be a difficult feat depending again on your skill set and job position.

As far as fees go, some attorneys charge nothing and others charge as much several hundred dollars for a consultation. I charge for my consultations and I believe that you are better off going to one who does. He or she should give you more information that you could possilbly imagine during the consultation and by charging the attorney is more inclined to do so. You will have to decide on that.
