Legal Question in Immigration Law in New Jersey

immigration

Dear Sir/Madam:

I came to the United States almost 8-year ago(Sep 27 1998).

I came as an international student, and I am still keeping that status. I am attending at NYIT for master degree(Electrical Engineering).

Recently, I have heard from one of my freinds that someone who was hear holding a student visa got the citizonship without marring or any other ways. The person also came to the United States almost same year I came.

I always thought the way to get the green card or citizonship is only thru H1 visa first and then greencard, and citizonship.

Is there anything have changed since I have been in the United States.

Again, I came to the United States at Sep 27 1998, and I never back to my country, and I always keep my student status.

I hope to hear something good news from you.

Thank you for taking the time to review my question.

Re: immigration

Dear Sir,

In order for one to change his status to a permanent resident one must either be sponsored through a famiy member or through an employer.

One cannot obtain a Green Card simply by being a student on a non-immigrant visa.

Thank you,
