Legal Question in Immigration Law in New Jersey
Immigration lost my stepsons papers
I am a British subject married to an American (got married 2 years ago. I took my son here to live with me (he was 15 then) we filed our Immigration paperwork then, mine went through ok within the first year, but I heard nothing at all from Immigration about my son. They lost his file, and ever since I have been sending copies of all the papers to them but I have had not replies at all. I am desperate to get these papers finalized. My son is now 17 he is attending High School here but can do nothing else. He has no social security number, and he cant get one, until they acknowledge our application. He just wants to be able to settle and do the same things as every other human being. It was a difficult enough move for him without having all his righs removed as well. Please help.

Re: Immigration lost my stepsons papers
Good day, your son's situation is not uncommon but to get the situation moving at the Immigration, you will need to do more than send them copies. I suggest you seek legal assistance since sometimes, you may have to get an order to compel immigration to act on the file which they lost. Your son is also nearing 21 at which age, there is a wait time for him to get permanent residency. We have an office in Newark, NJ and would be happy to answer any more questions you might have by email.
