Legal Question in Intellectual Property in New Jersey
I have been asked to create a logo for a friend's business, but I am worried about what fonts I can use in creating his logo. Some say they are copyrighted, but if all fonts were copyrighted, how would we display anything on the internet?
1 Answer from Attorneys
Many fonts are copyrighted and can be used only under license. The fonts that are used on the Internet and for other PC uses are all either licensed or in the public domain. With a little searching, you should be able to find a font in the public domain that will suit your purposes. If the font that you need is non-standard, you may have to buy a license. Prices vary. If you do decide to buy a license, be sure that it extends to the commericial use that you intend to make of it.
