Legal Question in Intellectual Property in New Jersey

Use of content generated from name generators

If one is writing a fictional book, may one use the name and any other specifics that would be generated from a name generator (for entertainment purposes) found on the Internet? Is this copyright infringement? Would the writer of the book have to get permission for the name generator's author, and if so, would it be in informal format (ie a return email) or formal format (ie a contract)?

Re: Use of content generated from name generators

Your question raises several issues. First, if the name generated by the name generator happens to be similar to that of a famous person, then trandemark infringement and related issues would need to be analyzed.

Second, how "unique" is the name generation program? Before I could analyze whether you need to get permission from the name generator, I would need to know more about that website.
