Legal Question in Intellectual Property in New Jersey
Copyright/Patent/Confidentiality
I have two product ideas that I would like to advance to market. One is a tangible good and one is an Internet Commerce site. Both will require third party engagements to either build and or advise on the offering. What legal documentation can I use to protect tis intellectual property form being stolen and or copied? What will the documentation do to protect me in the event of a breach of contract? Who should sign the documentation?
Thank you in advance,
Regards,
Greg

Re: Copyright/Patent/Confidentiality
The type of intellectual property protection depends upon the specific nature of the material you're looking to protect. If you're merely trying to protect the idea, a patent is the appropriate type of protection to pursue. Short of registering any type of IP protection, at the very least you would want to employ a comprehensive non-disclosure and non-compete agreements with your third party providers. I typically advise more practical and operational protections with my clients which are specific to the material that is being protected. I'd be happy to discuss those with you.
