Legal Question in Intellectual Property in New Jersey

I am on a F1 visa in the united states. My mother had written a cookery book which was published and sold in India. I want to sell them in the US. Will it be possible to get the books reprinted and sell the same in the US, legally.

The book was published in India, under a publication owned by my parents.

Thank You

Publication should not be a problem. However, the book should be copyrighted in the USA to protect your mother's rights.

Be mindful that as a F1 visa holder one is limited to the type of income producing activities one can engage in. Therefore, it would be prudent if a separate entity is established in the U.S. which will coordinate the sales of the book in the U.S. Unfortunately an F1 visa holder may not work for such entity. However, a person authorized to work in the U.S.may be hired or a foreign national can direct the affairs of the company as long as such foreign national is not physically present in the U.S.
