Legal Question in Intellectual Property in New Jersey

Picture for Profit

Someone took a picture of my house and windows and

sold them to a large company who put them in their

brochure for selling their product and on the internet

as well. I found this out when I saw a part of my

house in a local newspaper and logged onto their web site. Can someone just take a picture of your house

for profit? Please clarify applicable law(s) if any.

Thank you.

Re: Picture for Profit

Unless you have copyrighted the image of your house or in some other fashion protected the use of that image by registration, it is a matter of public domain and anyone can use a photograph of it as they see fit.

You apprear on many video tapes each day when you go to the grocery store, the bank, Walmart, etc., and that is no more a theft of your personal image than the photo of your house is a theft of that image, if unprotected by law.
