Legal Question in International Law in New Jersey

foreign lawyers

I am a lawyer in Lithuania. I graduated Law sschool at the University of Vilnius, Lithuania in 1998. What should I do in order to become a lawyer in USA? Please, help.

Depends in part on what you mean by being a "lawyer in USA." Some states permit foreign-licensed lawyers to practice as "foreign legal consultants" consulting on the law of their home country. If you want to pursue that, you would have to identify the states (Florida is one) that permit such practice.

If you mean becoming a US-licensed attorney, then the traditional route for foreign lawyers is to undertake a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree at one of the many law schools in the US that have programs on US law directed at foreign lawyers. Once you have that degree, in some states (New York is one) you are entitled to take the Bar examinations without any limitations, just as if you had an ordinary US law degree; other states weigh a number of circumstances and make an individual analysis of the foreign lawyer's qualifications; and other states entirely disregard foreign LL.M. graduates' qualifications.
