Legal Question in Employment Law in New Jersey

I am a 53 year old male who was laid off in August of 2011 from an IT job in the healthcare field. I was responsible for moo I have any recourse/ving a setting up remote offices and closing tickets. I was warned to pick up speed but I was having severe pain in my right arm. I had an mri and it showed that there were 2 tears in m y rotaor cuff. I needed surgery and when I announced I had surgery scheduled for Sept. I was laid off a few weeks later in Aug. I believe that it was because of age and the surgery. Do i have any recourse?
