Legal Question in Employment Law in New Jersey
After 6 yrs of working as a manager of a very large retail company I have been laid off, however others who have less time than me and are younger remain. when I asked how the lay offs were decided since they were not done on a seniority bases, she stated that it was nothing personal and it was based on last years review which is now a full year ago. None of this information was stated to me a year ago. Now after I have completed my last day. I have now learned that another manager has resigned and I am now laid off. if the company is hiring why am I still laid off. I would think my manager could be professional enough to let me know a job has opened up.
I am currently keeping in touch with my human resource department. however I dont feel I am getting the support I need. I need some legal advice.

You may have a claim under the NJ Law Against Discrimination, which prohibits all discrimination based on age--not just if you are over 40. Give our offices a call to discuss.
