assault at work

I'm a manager at my job and i was a victim of an assault and i also received terroristic threats at my work place during this physical dispute i had to restrain the suspect. a police report was filed and the police investigated and took statements from witnesses and prepared a report. the suspect went to the hospital and he is now trying to sue my company and has he has summited a statement full of lies can i sue the suspect for defamation of character and can i sue my company for not providing a safe work place being that this all took place inside of my work building?

Definitely a possibility that you could sue the work place based upon inadequate security. The reality is that most attorneys won't get too excited about suing an individual for defamation unless that person is Donald Trump. Did Donald Trump assault you? If not, then the suspect likely does not have the funds to justify an attorney investing considerable resources to prove defamation, then have nothing to collect from a judgment-proof defendant.
