Pro bono counsel may be assigned in a criminal matter and some quasi-criminal administrative matters in the discretion of the judge. To qualify, you must be a defendant and unable to pay for your own attorney. It has nothing to do with your illness. It sounds as if you or your case don't fit all the criteria.
