Conflict of Intrest termination

I was just terminated after 10 yrs with company due to conflict of intrest? My employer found out my husband was opening a business in the same field. Is this a legal termination? Dont know what to do at this point I cant even work with my husband due to a non compete I signed during my employment.

Re: Conflict of Intrest termination

There is nothing wrong with the terminiation. In an employment at will arrangement, the employer can terminate an employee for a good reason such as a conflict of interest.

You may want to have a lawyer review your noncompete agreement to see if there is any latitude for you in that.

Re: Conflict of Intrest termination

I would be interested in seeing the complete agreement that you signed with your former employer to see if there were other items covered regarding termination, in addition to seeing exactly what the non-compete clause states. My suggestion is that you have an attorney review that document with you to determine what, if anything, you can do with regard to the termination. My firm handles employment matters and I would be happy to speak with you further about this. Please feel free to contact me at your earliest convenience if you want more information.
