Legal Question in Employment Law in New Jersey
Copy of personnel records and signed papers
Are employees entitled to a copy of all records in their files. And are employees also entitled to a copy of any documents they sign. I, and many others at my company have to sign papers from time to time and management refuses to give a copy of what was signed. Yet if you do not sign the papers, your terminated. Many of us simply would like a copy of all papers we sign.
Thank You
Tom

Re: Copy of personnel records and signed papers
You do not say whether you work for a governmental agency, are in a union, etc. These facts may have a bearing on your ability to obtain copies of the documents you describe.
I find it highly unusual that your employer refuses to give you copies of documentation you are compelled to sign under threat of termination.
I believe a lawyer would be able to assist you and any fellow employees who are concerned about the issue, in obtaining copies of documentation that you sign from your employer.
I strongly recommend that you consult with an attorney immediately so that you can explore your legal rights, obligations, and options. If you wish to discuss retaining my services, contact me at:
