Can my former employer cancel my COBRA Health Insurance without notification? I have been on COBRA, paying my former employer directly since January 12, 2009. I received an EOB from my Insurance company yesterday stating denial of payment for one of my doctor's visits. When I called to inquire, they informed me I was no longer covered. They could not provide any details other than I was terminated as of August 15 and I needed to contact my "plan administrator", which is my former employer. I have never received any notification from employer or insurance company regarding my benefits being terminated. Can they just cancel my health insurance without any notice? They have been cashing my checks for the premium payments I made in August & September. Many other details, but don't want to ramble. Please help me. I am sick and need my health coverage. Thank You in advance......(not sure if this would be employment or health care law)

IF you have been paying the COBRA premium on time, and IF your former employer still offers a medical insurance plan, the employer must continue to cover you as if you were still employed. Have you contacted your former employer as yet? It might just be a clerical error that is easily corrected. However, if you cannot get a satisfactory answer from the company, you should speak with an attorney immediately.
