Legal Question in Employment Law in New Jersey

employer to lower salary

Can my employer lower my salary? Reason given was that company isn't doing as well as usual ($20 million in annual sales). If I don't agree to the pay cut, am I required to give them 2 weeks notice?

Thank You.

Re: employer to lower salary

Absent a contract or an agreement that might be implied in law (such as if you are in the first year of employment), your employer can lower your salary. You don't have to give notice if you elect to leave. In most jobs, notice is a courtesy and the need for that certainly evaporates if the employer is not going to continue your previous salary through the two weeks.
