Legal Question in Employment Law in New Jersey

can my employer make me turn over medical records?

I was involved in a car accident 4 months ago and was out of work for 3 weeks (unpaid) I went back to work but the injury to my knee worsened and My dr wrote a note saying I had to stay off of it for 2 weeks, I returned to work today and the owner of my company is telling me that if i dont turn over my complete medical records i will be fired. I had a valid excuse not and was not paid for my time off, even though it is a small office (11 people) do they have the right to demand my private medical records? please help
