employment question

If you are shedualed to work M-F 8 hrs a day and there is times during the week you may work 12-14 hrs overtime. Can an employer tell you not to come to work to keep overtime down when you are shedualed to work that day?

Re: employment question

The employer has the right to adjust your working hours for his/her convenience. If you are a non-exempt employee (i.e. subject to the overtime requirements of federal and New Jersey law), the employer is obligated to pay you time and one-half for any hour worked over 40 during a 7 day period. However, the employer is not obligated to allow you to work in excess of 40 hours.
