Legal Question in Employment Law in New Jersey

Hello, I am facing a potential lay off in New Jersey. I have been a fulltime employee of the company for ten years. I am presently enrolled in college courses also from 7-10pm tuesday evenings and 4pm-7pm wednesday evenings. I am a part time student. My question is, if I am layed off from my fulltime job. Will my parttime school schedule disqualify me from collecting unemployment benefits due to the days/hours?

Not necessarily. In order to be eligible for unemployment compensation, you have to be available for and looking for full time work. You already have a full time job so you have demonstrated that you can work full time while pursuing your education. Provided you meet the other requirements for benefits, which you can find by going on-line to the New Jersey DOL's UC website at http://lwd.dol.state.nj.us/labor/ui/ui_index.html, I see no reason why you shouldn't receive unemployment compensation. However, I hope your concerns are unwarranted and you are not laid off. Best wishes to you.
