Legal Question in Employment Law in New Jersey
I freelance in the live event industry. Recently I worked a food and music festival as a Production Asst at a generous day labor rate for a few days, and am owed $750.00. The production failed due to very poor ticket sales etc., and none of the PA's or other day laborers have been paid. We all filled out 1099 and direct deposit paperwork - the fine print stated monies to be paid in ten days. Its been over a month. The amount this production owes in labor is almost 20k. I just heard the company is in solvent, and almost bankrupt.
How should I proceed on collecting my pay?!
Please help, thank you -
Gina

Your best bet is to report the matter to the NJ Department of Labor. There may be nothing that can be done if the company is truly insolvent but they may be able to tell you without your having to get more out-of-pocket. /p/ See also: http://info.corbettlaw.net/lawguru.htm
