Legal Question in Employment Law in New Jersey
I am a hairstylist employee of a privately owned salon making commission. My employer notified the staff that there will be a 5% surcharge deducted from each weeks total gross per each employee for product usage. Is this legal?

There is no statute that is offended by the change. However, if you have a contract that defines the basis for your compensation, there may be a breach. Note that a contract does not have to be a formal written document. Even an oral agreement might do depending on the circumstances.
