Legal Question in Employment Law in New Jersey

I have handed in my resignation to my employer with 2 weeks notice. I have been told that I am just needed for 1 more week. Should I expect to get paid for the other week as I gave 2 weeks notice?

In general, your employer is not required to pay you for time not worked (absent a contract, benefit like earned vacation, or company policy). Therefore, you do not have a right to the extra week's pay. However, most employers will honor the unwritten agreement that, as you are expected to give two weeks notice before leaving, the employer should pay you for the two weeks.
