Legal Question in Employment Law in New Jersey
Hostile Work Environment
My boss insisted that I to carry her wallet for her at a meeting. I told her that I would not and she told me that I would. She then tried to put the wallet into my jacket pocket and I told her to stop it and that I am not her personal slave. I told her that I was offended my that and she told me that she did not ask anything wrong of me. She is now acting very disrespectively. If I call her to ask a question, she answers, What! I do not know what to do next.
There have been other things that she has done but I need my job and looked the other way. But this really set me back. I don't even what to go to work. Please advise if this is a form of a Hostile Work Environment?
If yes, what can I do about it?
Thanks.

Re: Hostile Work Environment
While the behavior you write about is rude on your boss's part, based on the information provided I don't see any claim for a hostile work environment. This is a claim that is made in the context of either sexual harrassment or racial discrimination.
However, this answer depends on what the other incidents were that you referred to. If you are interested in discussing this further, please call me at (215) 239-6026.
