Legal Question in Employment Law in New Jersey
My husband comitted suicide in Feb of this year. He was a custodian in an administrative bldg for a public school board of education. He hung himself on the job. I know that he was stressed by his job. he was the only custodian in the building. His job description was basic custodial chores. Being in a building with so many administrators they each thought he was there for their own needs. He tried to please everyone but sometimes fell behind. He had previously asked for part time help and was told it wasnt in the budget. He was also told that if he didnt do everything everyone wanted he would be fired. Other custodians in the district were not expected to do what he did eventhough they had the same job description. They had the maintenance staff come and fix things, paint and so on. My husband was doing this all himself. I recently found out that his replacement is only expected to do general custodial work. They have maintenance come over to help her with other things. If they had just given him the same treatment as she gets maybe he wouldnt have felt so stressed and not have killed himself. Is there anything that I can do?
