Legal Question in Employment Law in New Jersey
No Law against denial of Sick time
I was just informed that in NJ you can be denied the use of your sick time by your employer. If I was injured on the job and went to the hospital (during work hours). I was kept out of the job for two days as per the ER. I took my ER note to my employer yet I was not paid!!! This was in January. Then again it happened recently... I was denied my sick time eventhough I had sick hours!!! What is the point of accumulating time if the employer can tell you no when you use it!!!

Re: No Law against denial of Sick time
1. Your use of paid time off is governed by the employment contract or other arrangement that you have with your employer. If you are entitled to use sick time, the employer can't decide after the fact that you will not be paid.
2. If you were injured on the job, you probably have rights under workers' compensation and should make a claim for them.
