Legal Question in Employment Law in New Jersey
Is there any law to protect us?
Our Co. has recently decided to take almost everything from us. We understand the economic times we're in, but the changes aren't being made fairly across the board(mainly just our department),&some changes are not even saving them money, just keeping it from us to give to someone else. We all have clean perfect recrds&have all been there for min 13+yrs. we have had numerous owners&management during the yrs&have always been granfathered in, including the current owners. We do have new managers&they seem to have been brought in to get as most money out&into owners pockets no matter what the cost. They seem to be running the co. into the ground. Most recently, they have said that being we have no contract we have no agreement to how we're paid&it will change. Isn't an oral agreement binding?Does past established practices account for anything?Does the fact that the owner signs our check, which is in itself an agreement to our pay, count? Can they take from our money to pay other employees? We are not union, so does this mean that they can do whatever they want&there is no state or federal laws to protect us? Just dosn't seem fair. On top of everything,we feel hated, singled out& it makes for an unpleasant work place. Thank you!

There is no law to prevent your employer from making a poor non-fraudulent business decision.
